Baseball-Home sweet home for Swanson as Braves win fourth game of World Series

(Reuters) – Dansby Swanson said he had the chance to play for the team he grew up for after the Atlanta native hit a tying home run in the Braves’ 3-2 win in the fourth match of the World Series on Saturday.

Swanson fought hard against Astros reliever Cristian Javier in the seventh inning before hitting his first homer of the playoffs in the stands at right field.

He looked even more bloated when Jorge Soler hit a home run at the next batting, hitting the air and screaming excitedly as the home team moved on to a World Series title win and the first franchise since 1995.

“I am so grateful to be here. I can’t say it enough, ”said Swanson, who was selected first in the 2015 NHL Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks before being shipped to Atlanta later that year.

“Being traded here, I didn’t understand it. But God always has a plan and if there’s one thing I’ve learned is that having faith in that plan will never fail you, ”he said.

“Being here is one of the best things that has ever happened to me… It truly is a blessing to be here in this city.

“I’m a die-hard Falcons fan, a die-hard Hawks fan, and of course, I’m a die-hard Braves fan,” he said, referring to Atlanta’s professional football and basketball teams.

With the win, the Braves went 7-0 at home in the playoffs and will host the Astros again on Sunday.

Swanson said his club couldn’t afford to be complacent despite their 3-1 lead in the Top Seven series.

“We have one more,” he said.

“They have a great ball club there and we can’t take anything for granted. We have to go out tomorrow and be ready to play our game. ”
