Paris appoints Rich to basketball staff

South Carolina men’s basketball coach Lamont Paris has announced that Carey Rich will join his team as a special assistant to the head coach.

In his role, he will provide assistance on a variety of special projects, with heavy involvement in alumni relations, community outreach and recruitment efforts.

“I’m very happy to have Carey join my team here in South Carolina,” Paris said. “He’s so connected and respected in our community and with basketball in Palmetto State. This role is something that will evolve over time, but I’m thrilled to have him up and running. Alumni engagement is something that I’m going to focus on going forward and I expect Carey to play a very important role in that.”

Rich played three seasons in South Carolina (1993-95) and captained the team the last two seasons.
