ARLINGTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Thousands of U.S. servicemen and women converge in North Texas for an annual event held in a rare location.

It will be the first football game ever to be played in what was built as a baseball stadium.
On Friday, the Air Force and Army men’s and women’s boxing teams faced off in an 11-fight competition.
This is the prelude to Saturday’s game at Globe Life Field.
This will only be the fourth time in 55 games between the two academies that it will be played on neutral ground for what is called the Commander’s Classic.

Former Dallas cowboy Chad Hennings, an Air Force Academy graduate, worked to bring the game here.
“If you’ve never been to a service academy game before, I would highly recommend fans to come and experience it just to watch the cadets go by on the field,” Hennings said. “Just this pomp and circumstance, this pageantry. It makes you proud to be an American, and that’s the essence of this game. ”
The football field goalposts are now temporarily located in the infield and outfield of the new baseball stadium.
This is the first year of a two-year contract to host the rivalry.
The title sponsor of the Commander’s Classic is Lockheed Martin, based in Fort Worth. ‘
