Justin Konnick hired as Boyertown football coach

Justin Konnick has been hired as head football coach at Boyertown.

Konnick, a 1997 Boyertown graduate who is also the head coach of the Boyertown Legion baseball team, was endorsed by the school board at its meeting on Tuesday.

He replaces JT Miller, who resigned in January after going 15-34 in five seasons. The Bears were 4-7 in 2021.

Konnick, the 14th head coach in school history, served two stints as an assistant with the Bears (2007-09, 2017-21), holding positions as offensive assistant, coach of the defensive backs, linebackers coach and special teams coordinator.

He also coached at St. Pius X and the Oley youth program.

He played quarterback and defensive back for the Bears before going to Keystone College and West Chester University.

“I am extremely happy to be named the new coach of the school where I played high school football,” Konnick said in a statement.

Konnick served as the head baseball coach at Penn State Berks from 2012-2020, guiding the Nittany Lions to four Northeastern Athletic Conference titles and five NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.

He was also the Boyertown High pitching coach for 11 years and the Boyertown Grizzlies Junior Legion coach for two years.

“Although many know me first as a baseball coach, I have always coached with a football mindset and tried to instill the values that my high school coaches and my football coaches junior (Yogi Yerger, Barry Menning, Breezey Ruppert) taught me,” Konnick said in the same statement.
