Launch of the first packs for the fantasy football game NFT

DraftKings is increasingly branching out into the NFT sports landscape through its marketplace, which sits alongside its daily sportsbook, casino, and fantasy sports offerings. On Tuesday, the site took another step towards innovation in this area by removing NFTs for its upcoming Reignmakers fantasy football game.

On Tuesday, users had the opportunity to purchase a rare 2022 Field Pass for Reignmakers, which grants various benefits heading into the 2022 NFL season.

Reignmakers joins growing list of fantastic NFT games

The rare Field Pass carried a purchase price of $99, with only 2,000 available on the market. Those who hold one of these passes in July will receive a free one-card pack containing one of the NFL’s Top 20 Fantasy Players at the prescribed rarity – in this case, the rare tier.

Holders can land players such as Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes II, Jonathan Taylor, or Derrick Henry, among others.

Although DraftKings hasn’t released any details on how Reignmakers will work, it looks like the game will mirror their DFS product. Users will draft queues every week, but only from players on NFTs they own. Contests will be available at five different rarity levels: Core, Rare, Elite, Legendary, and Reignmaker.

While DraftKings will create Core and Rare player cards on demand, higher rarity tiers will feature fixed edition numbers. Starting mid-summer, users will be able to acquire more cards through packs, auctions, and the secondary market on the DraftKings website.

Additional passes will go on sale in the near future. DraftKings will release the Elite Field Pass — priced at $499 and limited to 500 — on Thursday. Users can bid on the Legendary Passes (minted at 200) and Reignmaker (limited at 20) at a later date. In addition to the guaranteed player card, holders will also have exclusive access to side sets of limited-release NFTs during the season.

DraftKings isn’t the only company adding fantasy sports utility to its NFTs in an effort to provide value beyond token collection. Last week, Major League Baseball signed a deal with Sorare to launch a fantasy MLB NFT game later this season. Sorare has made a name for himself with his popular NFT football games, which feature players from hundreds of clubs around the world.
