Had it not been for a slump in June last season, Houston third baseman Alex Bregman might have finished as one of the American League’s elite hitters in 2021. The the previous month, he had two RBIs and scored a run on May 15 against Texas Rangers and right-handed starter Dane Dunning. Dunning is off to a rocky start this year (0-1; 5.68 ERA) while Bregman has five hits and four RBIs in his last three games, but should you include him in your MLB DFS rosters?
Two other Astros regulars, designated hitter Yordan Alvarez and right fielder Kyle Tucker, each had two hits on their three at bats against Dunning last season. Perhaps stacking multiple Houston hitters is the approach to consider when analyzing Monday’s MLB DFS roster. Before making your MLB DFS picks, be sure to Learn MLB DFS tips, strategy and projections from SportsLine Daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.
McClure is an everyday fantasy pro who has earned nearly $2 million in his career. And when it comes to everyday fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune” as a top MLB DFS player, McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking into account factors such as recent fixtures and results. This allows him to find the best values on each site.
On Sunday, McClure named Giants first baseman Brandon Belt as one of his top MLB DFS picks on FanDuel and DraftKings. The result: Belt hit a triple and a single with an RBI to return 17 points on DraftKings and 21.7 points on FanDuel. Everyone who included him in their lineups was well on his way to a profitable day.
McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Monday, April 25, 2022
One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Monday is Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner, who is listed at $5,500 on DraftKings and $3,900 on FanDuel. Turner is on a three-game hitting streak and has had one in five of his last six starts. In his last two games, he also hit three RBIs, bringing him to 13 on the season.
Los Angeles starts a series at Arizona against the lowly Diamondbacks on Monday night and right-handed starter Merrill Kelly. Kelly has been strong this season, but Turner should be confident in the game as he has two hits and a walk in six previous at bats against him. In six games at Chase Field last season, Turner finished with a phenomenal .462/.500/1.115 batting spreads.
Another part of McClure’s optimal MLB DFS strategy includes lining up Astros left fielder Michael Brantley ($3,500 on DraftKings and $2,600 on FanDuel). Brantley is coming off his biggest fantasy performance of the season after homering with two RBIs and a brace in Houston’s 8-7 win over Toronto on Saturday. Over the past week, Brantley had nine hits, one home run and three RBIs in six games with offensive batting spreads of .375/.400/.542.
Brantley missed Dunning in his two starts against the Astros last season, but everyday fantasy players shouldn’t worry about that. Given Dunning’s lackluster start in his first three appearances and Brantley’s success against the right-handed pitcher, one would expect him to put the ball in play in most of his shots. So far this year, Brantley is batting .342 against right-handers with one home run and four RBIs, and has a .356 batting average on live balls.
